He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1826, where he also spent the early years of his life. He was an artist and photographer. From the time of his marriage until 1879, he carried on his business at Maryville, California. he then moved to Oakland, where he continued to prosecute his business until his death, in April, 1887. He was buried in the beautiful Cemetery at Oakland, California.
