Johnny Dewitt Thomas, 56, of Helenwood, passed away September 20, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville.

Born December 20, 1947, he was preceded in death by his parents, James Z. and Ziddie Smith Thomas; his wife, Patti Melhorn Thomas; and father-in-law, George D. Melhorn.

He was a member of Second Bethlehem Baptist Church.

He is survived by three daughters: Jeri Smith and husband, Les, of Helenwood, Misty Miller and husband, Scott of Panama City, Fla., and Rachel Jackson and husband, Shane, of Oneida; five grandchildren, one adopted granddaughter, one sister, Caroline Acres and husband, Jerry, of Oneida; two brothers, Jerry Thomas and wife, Pam, and Randy Thomas, all of Oneida; special friend, Leon Thomas; special cousin and fishing buddy, Lester Hill; special nieces and nephew, Dee and Allen Strunk and Tasha Walker; dearly loved mother-in-law, Shelby Melhorn; and a host of other relatives.

Internment in Melhorn Cemetery in Wartburg.
