Lavearn was the daughter of Edgar Coleman Sisco and Mae Alley Sisco. She had three sisters to live to adulthood: Lois Sisco Fuller, Cora Mae Sisco Nesbitt and Roberta Lanham Sisco. She also had a twin brother, Vernon, who lived to be 1 yr. old.

Lavearn married Rev. Alvin Amburgey in l956 and they had one daughter, Phyllis. Lavearn pastored a church in Sturgis,KY. after her husband died suddenly in l963. She never remarried, but dedicated her life to the Lord and His church. She truly loved the Lord and loved God's people.

She was well known in the ministry and preached at several churches in Kentucky. The Fredonia Pentecostal Church, in Fredonia, Ky. always had a special place in her heart. When she preached, the pews were so full that people would stand outside the open windows and listen to her preach. She impacted many, many souls for the Kingdom of God.

As Lavearn's health began to decline, she retired from pastoring in l984. In 2001, she fell and broke her hip, then required specialized care. She spent the remaining 3 years, 8 months, and 26 days in a nursing home. She absolutely adored her two grandchildren, Kelli Stone Fox and Dr. John T. Stone, III.
