Verlidia is not known to have had a middle name. However, one researcher incorrectly linked "Verlidia Smith" to "Alice V. Smith", and the middle name of "Alice" got spread all over the genealogy community. So anyone who can is urged to try and eradicate "Alice" from her name, wherever you find it. Thanks!

If anyone has an obituary or death certificate for Verlidia, please contact me, "Harlon", via Public Message. Either one or both could possibly clear up some important questions.

According to Census records, her father was born in North Carolina, and her mother was born in Arkansas. Otherwise nothing is known about her parents. (Recently, one researcher found a family on the 1860 Census for Cornelius Smith, born in North Carolina, and his wife Martha, born in Arkansas, with a daughter named Verlinda Smith. This looks promising for her parents, because Verlidia's parents show to be from those two states, respectively. Those parents are quite old to be her parents, but FamilySearch says childbearing age reaches to age fifty two. So I have linked these parents to Verlidia on FamilySearch.org.)

Verlidia Smith married Charlie Bonnard Sr. on September 18, 1873, in San Antonio, Texas. His name is recorded as Charley Bonnett on the marriage record. However, almost all other records show his name as Charlie Bonnard. They had two children:

1. Ida Belle Bonnard, born 1874 in Devine, Medina Co., Texas
2. Charlie Bonnard Jr., born 1876 in Devine, Medina Co., Texas

Unfortunately, Charlie Bonnard Sr. died in 1876.

Eighteen months after the death of Charlie Bonnard Sr., Verlidia married Britton F. Felps, on November 15, 1877. They were married a little over five years, and had one child together:

1. Mary Ellen Felps, born January 29, 1879.

For reasons unknown, Verlidia left Britton Felps, and on January 30, 1883, she married Levi Alan Gentry. Six children were born to this union:

1. Thomas Henry Gentry, born January 6, 1884
2. Minnie D. Gentry, born March 10, 1885
3. Emeline Gentry, born July 14, 1888
4. Oley Bud Gentry, born about 1890, in Texas, died about 1898, in Oklahoma
5. Elzy Allen Gentry, born March 10, 1894
6. Rosy Gentry, born about 1896, died about 1898

It is unclear who reared Verlidia's first two children, after she left Britton Felps.

Several genealogy researchers have mistakenly recorded Britton Felps as the father of Charles Bonnard Jr.

Verlidia died sometime after the 1930 Census, and before Levi's death (on May 12, 1936), but the exact date & place are unknown.
