GATESVILLE – Lucy Gatling Pollock, 87, of E. Maple St., died Monday, Feb. 27, 1995 in Greenville. Born in Gates County, she was the daughter of the late Riddick Waverly and Mrs. Nancy Langston Gatling. Having received her education at Appalachian State University and Atlantic Christian College, she taught in the Gates County public school system for 47 years. Nearly all of her career was devoted to teaching the first grade and she taught three generations of many families in Gates County. She was a life long member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Gatesville. Surviving are her husband, J. Graham Pollock; daughter, Clarine Gatling Pollock Powell and her husband, Robert J. Powell III of Greenville; son, J. Graham Pollock Jr. of New York City, N.Y.; a sister Clarine Gatling Carter of Gatesville; four grandchildren, Robert J. Powell IV, Graham Pollock Powell, John Gatling Powell and Catherine Grant Powell. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Dr. Donald V. Brand. Burial will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville; other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church or the Gates County Rescue Squad.
