Jack A. Calhoun, 83, of New Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday August 15, 2012, in Fountainview Nursing Home, Mishawaka.

He was born on November 5, 1928, in Tippecanoe Township, IN, to the late James W. and Goldie (Garland) Calhoun. On August 25, 1961, he married Margaret Brucker, who preceded him in death on August 9, 2000.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Large, Linda Baker and Susie Reinhold; and by a brother, Jim Calhoun.

Jack is survived by his daughters, Janice (Roger) Holston of Walkerton, IN and Judy (Ivan) Mark of Mishawaka; three sons, David of South Bend, Robert (Cathy) Calhoun of Jacksonville, FL and Michael (Cindy) Calhoun of Mishawaka; eleven grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Calhoun worked as a teacher for New Carlisle High School/New Prairie United School Corporation from 1952-1992, where he taught Biology. He and his wife owned and operated the Calhoun V & S Variety Store in New Carlisle.

Jack was a WWII Army Veteran. He was an active member of the New Carlisle Community for 43 years, where he raised his family. Jack and Margaret retired to Florida, where they loved to golf, fish and go bowling. He enjoyed cruises and gambling.

A memorial service for Jack will be held at 11 am Saturday August 25, 2012 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the service. Burial joining Jack and Margaret, will follow in New Carlisle Cemetery on their wedding anniversary
