Chester was the youngest son of Edward and Dorcas (Leffler) Cameron. At a young age, he was diagnosed with an unique illness. It was hard for him to find steady work. The illness that Chester might have had was Epilepsy.

Chester never married and is buried in the Cameron plot in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington Iowa next to his parents.
