Notes
Alias: "Robert Mingo"
Joseph H Ware uses the alias Robert Mingo in his 1869 Army enlistment apparently to avoid being detected as an 1866 deserter. He uses the alias Robert Mingo in an 1871 bank record, however "correct name Joseph H Ware, Jr" is noted, perhaps added later. In 1871, his residence is at Fort McRae, NM, while his 1st wife, Julia A Ware, lives at Union Co., AR with her family.
Although pardoned in 1873 for desertion, Robert Mingo is found in the 1880 census, with 2nd wife Josefa [Chavez] Mingo & their children. Some time before 1890, Joseph dropped his alias, as his true name is found in documents dated 1890 or later, including the 1890 Veteran's census, Socorro Co., New Mexico. However, as late as 1909, 1911, his name is listed as "Robert" Ware on children's original birth certificates.
