Mary was the daughter of Samuel and Delilah Rogers Monday. She married William Carroll at her parents' home in Claiborne County on July 17, 1851.

Mary and William had 6 children, with 5 surviving to adulthood. The variation in the middle names of Harriet and Mary are the names Mary used interchangeably in her pension file:

Harriet Melviney/Levina born 2/24/1853
Samuel born 8/21/1854
Mary Elviry/Olivet born 8/12/1858
Jordon born 8/11/1860
Margaret born 9/8/1862

The three oldest children married the children of William and Susan Pierce Blevins of Campbell County. They moved on to Missouri and Oklahoma, with Susan and William. The two youngest children remained in Tennessee.

Mary did not remarry. She raised the children alone.

A few of the disinterested people who gave affidavits in Mary's pension file in regard to whether or not she should receive a pension were her sister Sarah Jane (my great grandmother) and her brother Lafayette and her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Carroll Pierce (my great grandmother).
