Rhonda J. Huff Bennett, 58, of Friendly, WV, died,
September 7, 2010, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. She
was born, July 18, 1952, in Wood County, WV, a daughter of the Bernard Huff and
Jane Maston Huff and her companion Wayne Higgins. She was a 1970 graduate of
Sistersville High School. She had been employed at the former Colin Anderson
Center and was hired at the St. Marys Correctional Center on June 1, 1998 as a
Correctional Officer I and on February 27, 2002 she was selected for Controlled
Dangerous Substance K-9 Officer Course on May 31, 2002 after completing a
13-week training course with K-9 Raven she was promoted to the rank of Corporal.
In 2003 she again completed the CDS course with her new and current K-9 partner
Champ. She married John Bennett on May 12, 1989 who preceded her in
death in 2009, she was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Annabelle Huff
and two loyal dogs, Nakita and Lobo. In addition to her parents she was survived
by one daughter, Stacey Cathers of Parkersburg, WV, and her grandson, Thad, who
was more like a son to Rhonda, two step-children, Samantha Faye Bennett of
Rochester, PA, one son, John W. Bennett, Jr. and his wife, Connie, of Colliers,
WV, seven grandchildren, Kelly, Daniela, Jade, John III, Mark, and John, two
brothers, David Huff and his wife, Johanna, Derek Huff and his wife, Mary, and
several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and her friend who was more like a
sister, Pam Taylor, and three special dogs, Maddy, Raven, and Champ.
Services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010, at 2 P. M. at the
Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, WV with Pastor Darrell Mayfield officiating.
Interment will be in the Bennett Family Cemetery, Pleasants County, WV. Calling
hours from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P. M. Friday and from 1 to 2 P. M. Saturday at the
funeral home.
