Dollie Varden Horne, 94, of Narrows, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital. She was born in Narrows on October 3, 1917 to Robert Lee and Rose Perdue Blankenship. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Earnest Fulton Burton and Ballard Walter Horne; a son, Lee Burton; six brothers, Alfred, Tom, Omie, Fonso, Alvie and Jack Blankenship; and three sisters, Mary Wilburn, Gray Conley, and Alice Ferrell; and a special friend, Dot Craig.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was often seen sitting among her flowers on her front porch, rocking and playing with her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are a son, Basil Burton and wife, Gladys, of Narrows; a very special daughter-in-law, Doris Burton; six grandchildren, Brian and Sheri Burton, of Clover, S.C., Danny and Connie Burton, of Narrows, Judy and Garry Conley, of Pearisburg, Terri and Roger Smith, of Jacksonville, Ala., Mike and Erin Burton, of Pearisburg, Michelle Burton, of Narrows; twelve great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren; a brother, Walker Blankenship, of Narrows; a sister, Della Crawford, of Tennessee; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends, including Melissa Guynn, who filled her Wednesdays with love and laughter.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor John Jenkins and Bryan Pruett officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows.
