Bertha A. Alexander was born at LaGrange, Wis., November 15, 1870. She passed away at her home in Geneva, Friday, December 14th, 1851 at the age of 81 years and 1 month. She was a daughter of George W. and Ruby Alexander, who moved to Nebraska with their family in 1879, establishing their home on a farm near Milligan. Mrs. Davis attended school in Fillmore County, continuing her education at Christian College in Fairfield, Neb., and Cotner College in Lincoln. She later taught in the rural schools of the county.

In 1892 she was married to John P. Davis, who then operated a drug store at Ohiowa, Neb. To this union were born two daughters, Ruth and Faye, and two sons, Jay and Howard. In 1897 the family moved to a farm home near Milligan, where they resided until 1908.At that time the family moved to their farm south of Geneva, where they remained for 15 years, coming to their present home in Geneva in 1923.

At an early age Mrs. Davis was baptized into the Christian faith and she quietly practiced its principles in her daily living throughout her life. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Geneva for more than 30 years.

She was an active participant in church and community affairs. She was a member and served in various offices in the Roya; Neighbors, W.C.T.U., and Woman’s Club of Geneva.
Mrs. Davis lived a quiet and unassuming life. Her greatest joys were found in her devotion to her family and in service to others. Confined to her home the past three years by failing health, she was an inspiration to all by her cheerful and courageous spirit.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband, John P. Davis; four children, Mrs. Ruth Kinter of Goldendale, Wash., Jay A. Davis of Fullerton, Cal., Mrs. Faye Curtiss of Geneva, Neb., and Howard Davis of Plattsmouth, Neb.; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Little of York, Neb., and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held in the First Methodist Church in Geneva, Sunday afternoon, December 16, at 2 o’clock. Dr. F. E. Pfoutz gave the memorial tribute. Mrs. H. A. Rosenau, accompanied at the organ by Mary Ann Hrubesky, sang “O Lot That Wilt Not Let Me Go” and “Abide With Me.” The pallbearers were C. E. Dudley, John C. Gewacke, Gerald Walton, Ben D. Fussell, Earl H. Wilkins and Howard Hamilton. Interment was in Geneva Cemetery.
