Daughter of John Broughton of Killaderry, Broadford, Co. Clare.

Wife of John O'Donovan, translator of "The Annals of the Four Masters", whom she married in 1840..

Daniel Cornelius O'Donovan, son of John O'Donovan and Marianna Broughton, of 36, Upper Buckingham Street, Dublin, was born on 4th May 1856, and was baptised at St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Marlborough Street, Dublin, on 27th May 1856.

It would appear that they had at least 8 other sons.
All but one died without issue.

His eminence as a Celtic Scholar was recognised
in the Honorary Degree of LL.D. conferred on him by the University of Dublin
the Honorary Membership of the Royal Academy of Sciences at Berlin
and the Cunningham Gold Medal awarded to him by the Royal Irish Academy
by the Memorial which bears this inscription
some of his fellow countrymen have desired to mark their reverent gratitude
for his distinguished services to Learning and to Ireland.
