In early life he served as a captain in the Revolutionary War. In 1789, in the M.E. Church in which he remained a faithful laborer until the close of his life on 23rd March in the triumphant faith of the gospel.

Served 4 years 3 months as lieutenant and pay master in the 6th Maryland regiment under Colonel Shryock, General Washington and General Gates from the summer of 1776 until the fall of 1780 , was in action at Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth. Pension granted Harrison County Virginia 1819 was married to Susan J McDavitt , took place at the house of Joseph Cresap, July 4th 1821. Pension was also granted the Widow and Bounty Land warrants were issued for two tracks of land
