Winslow Atwood was born into one of Munsonville's oldest farming families. He was the son of Phillip and Eunice Farwell Atwood. His great-grandfather, John Atwood, came to Munsonville/Nelson town about 1780 from Templeton, Massachusetts, and settled in the northwest section of the infant town.

Winslow grew up on his great-grandfather's homestead. As an adult, Winslow became a farmer, a carpenter, the town supervisor, town Selectman in 1885, and the owner of a large maple sugar orchard. He and his brother, Milan, both registered in the Civil War Draft in June of 1863. However it is not known if he actually served. Following the death of his brother, Milan, in 1865, he became the administrator of his brother's estate in July of 1865.

About 1868 he married Lorana Adalaide Ellis, who bore him three children, two of whom survived into adulthood:
Mabel Adelaide Atwood Wellington
George Winslow Atwood

His many friends and family members threw him a surprise party for his 35th birthday in 1875. It was during this time that he was presented with a Family Bible.

Winslow moved his family to Swanzey, New Hampshire in 1906 where he and his wife and one son all resided and worked on the family farm they had established there. Winslow had suffered with heart disease for years and it contributed to his death. He passed away in Swanzey and was returned to Munsonville for burial. He was buried in the Munsonville Cemetery on February 19, 1916.

Other Known Siblings:
Lydia Ann Atwood Robbins (1828 - 1907)
Electa A Atwood Buss (1843 - 1872)
