Johnny A. "Whitey" Murphy, 76, died on March 12, 2010 at home in Mt. Eden--among everything that was his life with Martha, who preceded him in death after more than a 1/2 century of marriage. He was a retired auto body repairman and former gas station owner. He also was a carpenter, a stonemason, and farmer. Mr. Murphy enjoyed collecting arrowheads and beekeeping--helping to run Murphy Brothers Bee Ranch. He also served in the Korean War in the US Air Force.

He is survived by his children: Terry and Rhonda Murphy of Shelbyville, Marilyn and Mike Broughton of Shelbyville, and Tammy and Brian McNew of Travisville; and ten grandchildren: Melanie, Lee, Matthew, Hailey, and Stuart Murphy; Micah Broughton; and Ben, Katie, Olivia, and Keegan McNew; and his sister, Mary E. Jackson of LaGrange.

A small graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13 at the Grove Hill Cemetery. All expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of a donation to Hosparus--1-800-264-0521.
