HOPEDALE- Letis B. Martin, 88, of Hopedale, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at Hopedale Medical Complex.
Born in rural Hopedale, to Aaron and Mary Wittrig Martin, he married Margaret McBride on Sept. 3, 1935, in Springfield. She died June 10, 1979.
Surviving are twin sons, Donald (Janice) Martin and Ronald (Jeanne) Martin; daughters, Norma Hall and Rita (Jerry) Shannon; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Warren (Dorene) Martin, Lloyd (Lucille) Martin and Larry (Joyce) Martin; two sisters, Edith Weaver and Ruth (Harold) Schilpp and a special friend, Lorene Butler.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Edward and Jack; one grandson, Brett Hall; five sisters and two brothers.
He was a volunteer for the Hopedale Fire Department for forty-two years, where he later served as a trustee. He was an avid Cub fan.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hopedale Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Penny Frame officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Davis Mortuary, Hopedale. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Fire Department.
