U.S. Congressman. Moving to Michigan, in the early 1830s, he was a farmer, studied theology, was ordained as a minister and was presiding elder of the Methodist Episcopal Church, of the Kalamazoo District, (1844 to 1848). Entering politics, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first Congress, serving (1849 to 1851). After leaving Congress, he retired from politics and returned to his farm in Kalamazoo County, until his death.
