She was a member of First Baptist Church of New Haven. She retired from the Howard's General Store in New Haven after 35 years of service and she was also an Avon representative for more than 20 years and she loved visiting all her customers.
Cheryl was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and most of all, friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hardin Johnson; a son, James Bruce Johnson; two brothers, Charles Mattingly and Fred Mattingly; and two sisters, Naomi Nelson and Bernice "Neecey" DeMar.
Survivors include a son, Fred Johnson, of New Haven; a daughter, Jennifer "Jenny" (Eddie) Cecil, of New Haven; two granddaughters, Morgan and Emily Cecil, both of New Haven; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17 at First Baptist Church in New Haven with burial in Riverview Cemetery in New Haven. The Rev. Aaron Shipp will officiate.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, June 16, and 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, until the time of the service at William R. Rust Funeral Home, New Haven chapel, 167 N. Main St. in New Haven.
William Rust Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
