PARKER CITY - Bessie Jane Reed, 85, of Parker City, passed away Wednesday August 22, 2012 at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.
She was born March 12, 1927 in Muncie to Teal and Lavena (Lucas) Holbert and was one of ten children. Bessie married James Robert Reed on October 15, 1944 in Albany, Ind.
She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for twenty-seven years during which time she worked at Ball Memorial Hospital and several area nursing homes.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Gene) Reece of Parker City, Jenny (Harold) Duncan of Farmland; son, Stan(Sharon) Reed of Norman, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Donald Reece of Anderson, Kathy (Mike) Morris of Farmland, Amanda (Tim) Sheffer of Parker City, Tina (Dan) Clark of Louisville, TN, Christie (Scott) Sprinkle of Westfield; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister, Dixie (Gus) Barbera of Florida; many special nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Charlie Jones of Royerton.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, James Robert Reed in 1997; parents, Teal and Lavena Holbert; four brothers, Herschel, Pete, Teal, and Foster Holbert; four sisters, Helen Summers, Effie Richman, Margie Cecil, and Nancie Williams.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 at Gardenview Funeral Home 10501 N. S.R. 3 Muncie.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 25, 2012 at the funeral home.
