Collins Resident Takes Own Life

Carl Halverson, 46, shot and killed himself with a .12 gauge shotgun Saturday evening, in the woodshed behind his Collins home.
The body was found by a son Roger, 11, when the boy went to call his father for supper.
Dr. Theodore Teitgen, Manitowoc County coroner, ruled the death suicide. Undersheriff Clarence Baryenbruch said that Halverson, a shipyards worker and widower, had shot himself in the chest about 5:30 p.m.
There was no suicide note, but friends told the undersheriff and Chief Deputy King Sears that Halvorson had been talking about killing himself for some time, Baryenbruch said. Halvorson had spoken to a neighbor about suicide just a few hours before his body was found.
While dinner was cooking in the home, Halverson walked to the woodshed and ended his life. Baryenbruch said the body was found when Halverson's mother in law, Mrs. Dale Krueger, sent Roger to call his father for dinner.
Halverson was born Sept. 4, 1907, in the town of Cato and in 1937 married the former Irene Krueger who died 11 years ago.

Survivors are two children, Luan and Roger, who make their home with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Krueger of Collins; two brothers, George of Two Rivers and Selmer of Manitowoc; and a sister, Mrs. Clara Erickson of Waukesha.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Berge Funeral Home, Valders. The Rev. Merlin J. Hoeft of the Zion Ev. United Brethren Church will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
