One of the founders of the "Alexandria Plan" as it came to be known at the Alexandria, Virginia hospital which established a 24 hour Emergency Room. ER's soon followed around the country & throughout the world, leading to the development of emergency medicine as a specialty.

"The Alexandria four were the first group of American doctors to engage in full-time emergency practice" was quoted in a book written on the subject. Also involved were Dr. James DeWitt Mills, Jr., Dr. Chalmers "Babe" Loughridge, Jr. & Dr. John McDade.
Dr. Loughridge died in 2012 & Dr. Mills died in 1989.
