Ada Ruth Witt, 80, of Mendon, died at 4:35 a.m. Wednesday (April 1, 2009), in North Adams Home at Mendon.
She was born Dec. 5, 1928, near Fowler to Arthur and Fern Evans Schroeder. She married Gerald Witt on April 9, 1954. He died Oct. 10, 1979. They spent many happy years together working and raising their family on their farm near farm.
After graduating from Mendon Townhip High School, Ada graduated from Culver-Stockton College and went to work for the Quincy Herald-Whig and later became a homemaker.
She was a member of the Loraine United Methodist Church and was a devoted wife and mother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and loved reading books, writing stories, and enjoyed the family pets. Her favorite hobby was making ceramic figurines, many of which she gave as gifts to those she loved.
Surviving are two children, Susan Witt of Mendon and George Witt and his wife, Jackie, of Mendon; four grandchildren, A1C Courtney Witt stationed at Andersen Air Force Base in Yigo, Guam, Ryan Witt of Mendon, Corey Witt of Mendon and Drew Witt of Mendon; and one brother, Edward Schroeder of Mendon.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Loraine United Methodist Church with the Rev. Oliver Taube officiating. Burial will be in the New Loraine Cemetery near Loraine.
VISITATION: 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Loraine United Methodist Church.
MEMORIALS: Loraine United Methodist Church or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
ARRANGEMENT: Hunter Funeral Home, Mendon.
