Compliments of Carol Bickel:

“David Baker built a sawmill a rod or two up the west branch of the Potick Creek. It was built early and was still standing in 1840 but taken down some time after. The mill ran two upright saws and was the only one of the kind in town.” Beer, JB, History of Greene County, NY published 1884 p292.

and ...

In the 1855 Greene Co NY state census David Baker is listed as being born in Putnam County, NY. He had lived in Greene County, NY for 60 years. At that time he was 77 years old, which calculates to a birth about 1778, and an immigration to Greene Co about 1795. Since Putnam County was formed from Dutchess County in 1812, David Baker's statement must
mean he was born in the area of Dutchess Co that became Putnam County in 1812. The location of Putnam County is in the very south of Dutchess County. Some of the towns
were: Carmel, Fredericksonville, Paterson, and South East. In the 1800 Greene County census David Baker had an adult female and 1 female under 10 in his household. It appears the rest of his children were born in Greene County.
