Holmes Applegate, 81, passed away in Tulsa, Okla. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012. Holmes was born to Hessel Thomas and Cora Eleanor (Follensbee) Applegate on Aug. 3, 1931 in Asbury Park. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann M. Applegate; and two sisters, Marilyn Long and Phyllis Edlestein-Covert. Holmes is survived by one daughter, Patricia Eagan and her husband, Mike; one son, Thomas H. Applegate and his wife, Tina; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Graveside service 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chapel Hill Road, Middletown.

Until the 1996 death of his wife Ann, Holmes lived in Monmouth County, NJ. At that time he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be with his beloved daughter Patty and her husband Mike.

Holmes had an appreciation for antiques and local history. He owned an auction house and a general store in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in the 1970's and 80's.

While living in Bradley Beach, NJ, Holmes was known as something of a community "watch-dog" and created more than one fund raising organization to help community members in need.
