Obituary - Sigourney Review - August 8 1962

Henry Stokesberry, well known in the Sigourney community, passed away at 7 PM Monday at the Pleasant Valley nursing home, where he had been a patient for the past year. He was born on a farm near Sigourney on September 12, 1876, the son of John Wesley and Lydia Reynolds Stokesberry. He was the last survivor of a family of eight children.

He was educated in a real school, near his home and most of his life time was spent in Iowa except for only a few years spent in Kansas.

On December 3, 1901, he was married to Margaret Davis in the home of her parents, near Sigourney. To this union one daughter, Ruth was born. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on December 3, 1951. He was a member of the Baptist Church. In 1940 Mr. Stokesberry retired from his farm and came to Sigourney to live. For 10 years he was employed for outer back and Devilbiss at the Westside hardware store.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Gertrude,( Mrs. Harris Barnhart) of Sigourney passed away on July 15, 1954: one grand child died June 20 June, 1943: one great grandchild in December, 1956; two brothers and five sisters.

He is survived by his wife and one grandchild, Mrs. Dean Appleget, Sigourney. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM this afternoon Wednesday at the home funeral home with the Reverend Kirby Fuller, Pastor of the Christian church in charge and burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery west of Sigourney.
