MICHAEL SAKELARIDOS
Michael E. Sakelaridos, 78, of 146 Wood Street, died yesterday afternoon at his home. A known resident of South Wilkes-Barre, he had been convalescing at his home following discharge from Mercy Hospital two weeks ago.
A native of Athens, Greece, Mr. Sakelaridos was born December 27, 1885, son of Emmanuel and Maria Sakelaridos. He served in the Greek Navy while a young man. Mr. Sakelaridos first settled in Chicago. He resided in Wilkes-Barre the last 52 years.
Prior to his retirement several years ago, Mr. Sakelaridos had been employed as a crane operator for Vulcan Iron Works more than 40 years. Mr. Sakelaridos was a member of Greek Orthodox Church and its men's organizations.
Surviving are his widow, the former Helen A. Casper; children, Mrs. Walter Lion, Tonawanda, N. Y.; Michael, Garwood, N. J.; James, Scranton; Joseph, Binghamton, N. Y.; Mrs. Ignatius Politis, Mrs. Austin Rowe and Mrs. Eugene Pappas, all of Wilkes-Barre; sister, Mrs. Helen Xanthopoulos, wife of Very Rev. Joseph Xanthopolous, pastor of St. Demetrius Orthodox Church, Chicago; brother George, in Australia; 15 grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from Kniffen Funeral Home, 465 South Main Street, Thursday afternoon at 1:30. Service will be held at 2 in Greek Orthodox Church. Friends may call tonight and Wednesday night 7 to 10.
Rev. Peter Retelis will conduct Trisagion services at the funeral home Wednesday night at 8.
