A.L. "Kelly" Andrus, 71, former city judge of Opelousas, died suddenly Friday night at this home shortly after he had retired. Death was attributed to heart attack. The body is at his home on South Court Street. Funeral will be Sunday morning at 10:30 A.M. at the Catholic church, Father A.B. Colliard officiating.

Mr. Andrus was born and reared in Grand Coteau and educated at St. Charles College there. He came to Opelousas 40 years ago to take a position as chief deputy tax collector under the late Sheriff MArion Swords. Later Andrus was elected assessor of St. Landry and after serving in this capacity was cashier of a local bank. He later became city judge, serving for 12 consecutive years. In recent years he was in the insurance business.

He is survived by his wife, nee Alice Martin; one son, Attorney A.L. Andrus, Jr., Opelousas; two daughters, Mrs. Joe Whittenberg, Opelousas; Mrs. E. A. Veillon, Eunice; and three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Louisa Boudreaux, Sunset; Mrs. C. Smith and Mrs. E.J. Guilbeau, both of Opelousas.
