Merlin T. Behnke, 38, of Reedsville, died Monday afternoon at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Behnke, after a heart attack. He had lived with his parents all his life, having been totally disabled during World War II.
Funeral services will be at Reedsville Funeral Home, the Rev. Lloyd Fried, pastor of Friedens Evangelical and Reformed church, Reedsville, officiating. Burial will be in Brillion Cemetery.
Mr. Behnke was born Sept. 26, 1922, in the town of Rockland, Manitowoc County, son of Julius and Ruth Fischer Behnke. He entered the Army Infantry, Jan. 21, 1943, and served in France, where he was totally disabled by injuries and taken to Mayo General Hospital at Galesburg, Ill.
When discharged Aug. 15, 1945, he had received a purple heart, a good conduct medal and a ribbon for serving in the European Theater.
Surviving besides his parents are a brother, Lester of Brillion; two sisters, Mrs. Wilbert Denor of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, and Mrs. Wilmer Rahn of Rt. 1, Reedsville; his grandfather, Robert Fisher Sr. of Rt 2, Reedsville and six nieces and five nephews.
