George E. Thomas was born in Jan 1870 in Henry County, Illinois the son of Jerome W. Thomas, Oswego, Oregon’s first Mayor and Permelia Beers. George married 27 June 1894 in Marion County, Oregon to Clarissa “Clara” Lemery. George and Clara had no children. In 1900 George was listed as a merchant, probably working in his father’s store. By 1910 he owned and operated his own barber shop. His wife and sibling Roy W. and Mrs. Edith Carrie Clay, preceded him in death; by 1930 he owned his home free and clear, valued at $6,000. He was the administrator of his father’s and his sister’s estate. He died in the Mulnomah County Farm.
NOTE: The 1900 census gives his birth Dec 1870, however, the 1870 census lists him at age 6 months, born within the year in January.
