From the book "Genealogy of the Swink Family of Missouri" by Robert A. Swink; The Star-News Publishing Co., Pasadena, California, 1940:

PHILLIP AUGUSTUS SWINK
Phillip Augustus Swink, son of William Swink, grew to manhood on his father's farm on the Saline Creek. When the war of the Rebellion broke out the need for men became greater and greater and finally, when he was only sixteen years of age, he entered the war on the side of the Confederacy and served under General Jeff Thompson. He engaged in a skirmish it Lexington, Missouri, and at Neosha, Missouri. His company disbanded in the year 1864 in Benton County, Arkansas. On his way home he met up with some Union soldiers at Frederickstown, Missouri, who took him prisoner and sent him first to Pilot Knob, Missouri, but later to Gratiot Prison in St. Louis, Missouri, where he remained from October 1, to December 1, 1864, when he was banished from Missouri and sent into that part of Illinois lying east of the Illinois Central railroad. Here he remained until the close of the war.
On his return he found conditions quite different from what they were when he left. Negroes had been set free, unrest everywhere, stock killed or stolen, fences and buildings burned. Fortunately his father's house still stood. The period of reconstruction was a period of discontent and unrest. He and his father wished for the elder brothers John Edwin, and in 1869 he left for California, the year the first transcontinental railroad was completed. He returned in 1870 with his brother, John Edwin. Shortly after his return he married Jennie Ashbaugh and followed farming until 1895, when he moved with his family to Fayetteville, Arkansas. His wife's health becoming very bad, he returned to Jefferson County, where she died in 1907. However, during their sojourn in Arkansas, the eldest son, Harry, married and did not return with them.
One of his sons, Percy, had gone to Porterville, California, and his youngest son having died, he went to live with Percy, where he died about 1923 or 1924. He was buried in the Gamel Graveyard at Festus, Missouri. All his life he was a devout member of the Christian Church.

In a story on pg. 36 titled," CHRISTIAN CHURCH WAS PRESENT BEFORE NAMING OF CITY OF FESTUS:
****** "...The Rev. G. A. Hoffman, now living in Bloomsdale, organized the church in 1883 with the following charter members: Mrs. Mary M. Kenner, Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Swink, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Swink, Mr. and Mrs. William Swink, Mrs. Sarah McNutt, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Madison, Peter Guthorel, and Mrs. Ida Sherlock. ..."
This apparently came from a series of stories in 1937, put together for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the City of Fetus, Missouri. It mentions many Swinks and Swink spouses, including Philip and Eliza. Mr. and Mrs. William Swink are Philip's parents William and Mary Swink. They were living in the home of their daughter Mary Kenner and her family in Festus at the time. Mary Kenner is his sister, married to William Kenner. Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Swink is his brother John and his wife Mariah. Mrs. Sarah McNutt is John's sister married to George McNutt. I have more of the story in notes for her sister Mary Malinda (Swink) Kenner.

PHILLIP AUGUSTUS SWINK
Phillip Augustus Swink, son of William Swink, grew to manhood on his father's farm on the Saline Creek. When the war of the Rebellion broke out the need for men became greater and greater and finally, when he was only sixteen years of age, he entered the war on the side of the Confederacy and served under General Jeff Thompson. He engaged in a skirmish it Lexington, Missouri, and at Neosha, Missouri. His company disbanded in the year 1864 in Benton County, Arkansas. On his way home he met up with some Union soldiers at Frederickstown, Missouri, who took him prisoner and sent him first to Pilot Knob, Missouri, but later to Gratiot Prison in St. Louis, Missouri, where he remained from October 1, to December 1, 1864, when he was banished from Missouri and sent into that part of Illinois lying east of the Illinois Central railroad. Here he remained until the close of the war.
On his return he found conditions quite different from what they were when he left. Negroes had been set free, unrest everywhere, stock killed or stolen, fences and buildings burned. Fortunately his father's house still stood. The period of reconstruction was a period of discontent and unrest. He and his father wished for the elder brothers John Edwin, and in 1869 he left for California, the year the first transcontinental railroad was completed. He returned in 1870 with his brother, John Edwin. Shortly after his return he married Jennie Ashbaugh and followed farming until 1895, when he moved with his family to Fayetteville, Arkansas. His wife's health becoming very bad, he returned to Jefferson County, where she died in 1907. However, during their sojourn in Arkansas, the eldest son, Harry, married and did not return with them.
One of his sons, Percy, had gone to Porterville, California, and his youngest son having died, he went to live with Percy, where he died about 1923 or 1924. He was buried in the Gamel Graveyard at Festus, Missouri. All his life he was a devout member of the Christian Church.

In a story on pg. 36 titled," CHRISTIAN CHURCH WAS PRESENT BEFORE NAMING OF CITY OF FESTUS:
****** "...The Rev. G. A. Hoffman, now living in Bloomsdale, organized the church in 1883 with the following charter members: Mrs. Mary M. Kenner, Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Swink, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Swink, Mr. and Mrs. William Swink, Mrs. Sarah McNutt, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Madison, Peter Guthorel, and Mrs. Ida Sherlock. ..."
This apparently came from a series of stories in 1937, put together for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the City of Fetus, Missouri. It mentions many Swinks and Swink spouses, including Philip and Eliza. Mr. and Mrs. William Swink are Philip's parents William and Mary Swink. They were living in the home of their daughter Mary Kenner and her family in Festus at the time. Mary Kenner is his sister, married to William Kenner. Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Swink is his brother John and his wife Mariah. Mrs. Sarah McNutt is John's sister married to George McNutt. I have more of the story in notes for her sister Mary Malinda (Swink) Kenner.
