Services will be 10 a.m. Thurs. at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, with the Rev. Dr. Paul Samuelson, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wed., with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson Berger Funeral Home. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the service Thurs., at the church.
Mrs. Kaas was born 3 May 1913, in Jasper, Minn, the daughter of I.O. & Ida (LEE) BOLAND. She married George J. DEGEN in 1935, in Huron, SD. She later married Clifford A. KAAS on 29 Dec. 1951, in Luverne, Minn. He died 22 Jan. 1991, in Sioux City.
She worked for Armour's Packing Plant & Eilers Furs in Huron. She later moved to Luverne, where she worked for a hatchery. She lived in Sioux Falls, SD., then moved to Sioux City. In Sioux City, she worked as a furrier for Younkers - Davidson & Kalin's. She had been a hunting guide in SD. for Joe DiMaggio & other celebrities.
She was awarded the title of "Queen of Open Line" at KSCJ. Through the radio station, she also was known for her promotion of ticket sales for the Shrine Bowl.
She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church & a frequent visitor at the Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff.
Survivors include a daughter, Dian LIEBENTHAL of Sergeant Bluff; a son & his special friend, Kenneth KAAS & Janet Peters of Sioux City; 2 grandchildren, Erik LIEBENTHAL & his wife, Jennifer of Heidelberg, Germany & Ashley KAAS of Sioux City; 3 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Eden & Salem LIEBENTHAL.
She was preceded in death by 4 brothers & 2 sisters.
Pallbearers will be Bob Klunk, Gary Rasmussen, Roger Donahue, Ronald Styer, Jerry Meyers & Brent Zupp.
