Charles Chitwood Slate was my great great grandfather. He was a man who valued family, both past and present very highly. I was only three years old when he passed but one of my older sisters remembers meeting him at a family reunion when she was a small child. She said the family carried him on a stretcher so that he could attend the reunion. He also wrote very valuable histories of his family which were included in "Cal's Column" in the Macon County Times.
