Edward was the son of Lydia (Chegwin) and Michael Abrams, originally of Cornwall, England. He was their first child and was born in a miner's cabin at Eagle River, shortly after his parents arrived in America. In his youth he worked as a laborer and blacksmith, and eventually entered school, graduated college at Valparaiso, and graduated from Dartmouth Medical School in 1889. He did postgraduate work at Long Island College Hospital. He began his medical practice at Centennial, Michigan and later moved to Dollar Bay, where he remained for the rest of his life. In 1890 he married Ida L. Howe of Howell, Michigan. One daughter, Marguerite, was born to them but died in infancy. He was survived by his wife, 3 sisters: Susan, Annie and Lydia and 2 brothers: Henry and Dr. John Chegwin Abrams of Calumet. Edward was a surgeon to various mining companies; a consulting surgeon and lecturer on obstetrics and gynecology, and a member of several boards and commissions.
In 1907 he was elected to the Michigan state house of representatives from Houghton County 2nd District, 1907-08, where he was known for his great intellect and mediation skills. He died at 67 years.
