ALBRECHT, Christian Frederick Louis (Christian Friedrich Ludwig) (b Hanover, Germany, 6 Jan. 1788- d Philadelphia, 1843; fl 1823-43. Piano maker in Philadelphia. C. F. L. Albrecht may have been related to the early Philadelphia maker Charges Albrecht (b Germany, 1760- d Philadelphia or Montgomery County, PA, 28 Jun 1848) and another Philadelphia maker, George Albrecht. Christian left Hanover to sail from Hamburg to Philadelphia, arriving 18 Oct. 1822.

Under his given name Christian Albrecht, C. F. L. Albrecht opened his first shop in Philadelphia in 1823 at 106 St. John Street.

In 1828 Christian Albrecht took out a US patent for one of his pianos. By 1832 he was exporting his pianos as far away as New Orleans, and by the early 1840s to Cincinnati, Richmond, and even New York. Although he enjoyed a comfortable success as a piano maker, his skill and reputation as a cabinet maker allowed him to make additional income.

Conrad Meyer is known to have been a good friend of Christian Albrecht and was, along with Christian's widow Maria, one of the executors of Christian's will, dated 10 Sept. 1831 and probated 22 Mar. 1843.
