Mr. Daniel Gordon Wright, age 87, of Newnan, GA, died on Aug. 27, 2012. He was born in Coweta County on June 10, 1925, to the late Walter L. Wright Sr. and Willie Irene Ashley Wright. Dan served his country in World War II in the United States Navy and retired as Captain from the Newnan Fire Department after 36 years. He was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver, an award given to registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service — performing community service through hard work, self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. Mr. Wright was a member of Central Baptist Church of Newnan, the White Oak Golden K of Kiwanis International, and the NGO of First Baptist Church of Newnan. His happiest of retirement years were spent at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home, where he enjoyed working with people as a funeral assistant. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Wilma Higgins Wright of Newnan; sons, Gordy Wright and his wife Julie of Conyers and Greg Wright of Newnan; brother, W.L. Wright Jr. and his wife Dot of Newnan; grandchildren, Stephen Wright and Elizabeth Wright; many nieces and nephews. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.higginshillcrestchapel.com .
