BOONSBORO - Margaret E. "Peg" Funk, 87, of 36 St. Paul St., died Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Reeder Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born in Boonsboro, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary E. Strause Itnyre.

She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School, class of 1921. She also graduated from Towson State Teacher's College in 1924.

She began her teaching career at Broadway Elementary School, and taught at Winter Street, Howard Street, Sharpsburg, and Salem Avenue elementary schools. She also taught for one year at Frankford Elementary School in Frankford, Del.

She retired in 1969 after teaching for 28 years.

She was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boonsboro, where she was a member of the Senior Choir for over 60 years. Her other church activities included serving on the church council and directing the Tots' Choir and the Youth Choir for many years.

She was also active in Lutheran Church Women, the Social Committee, the Music and Worship Committee, evangelism and Vacation Bible School.

She was a member of the Antietam Lioness Club; the Rohrersville Homemakers Club; the Boonsboro Historical Society, the Washington County Retired Teachers Association, the Maryland State Retired Teachers Association, the AARP and was an honorary life member of the Maryland Congress for Parents and Teachers.

She is survived by her husband, Merle R. Funk.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan III will officiate. Burial will be in the Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 64 S. Main Street, Boonsboro or the American Heart Association.
