Obituary: Florence Caroline Bates Carlson Parsons, 90, passed away on August 20, 2001 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on Oct. 20, 1910 to Bertram Edward Bates and Caroline Augusta Crocheron in Erda, Utah. She Married Nils Algot Carlson on June 2, 1928. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple. She was a member of the Wives of Gustov Adolph Male Chorus, DUP, Grandmothers of Primary Children's Medical Center. Florence had a love of music and sang all of her life. She performed over KSL radio with the Bates Sisters. She was affectionately known as "Grandma-great" and "Auntie Flo". She raised and supported her four children after the death of her husband in World War II. She had a unique wit and a listening ear up to the day of her peaceful passing. She loved things of culture and was a writer of poetry. We'll miss you, Mom. Thanks for all your love, caring and example.
Survived by her children Joyce C. Phippen (McKay) daughter, James A. Carlson (Pamela) son; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, her five brothers and sisters, daughter Elizabeth C. Dunn, son Nils A. Carlson, Jr. Funeral services will be held on Friday Aug. 24, 2001 at 12 noon at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Dr. where friends may call on Thurs., August 23, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to services. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
