In April, 1845, J.C. Altick and his brother, G.B. Altick, started a drug business in the old post office building which occupied the site of the present First National Bank. In 1858, the post office building was vacated and J.C. Altick purchased what was then the Madison hotel property which has since been the home of the well known drug store.
