Erastus was known as the "Father of Probation". He was the first court probationary officer in New York State. He helped hundreds of young men who were first offenders in Brooklyn. Before moving to Brooklyn, he was the Sheriff of St Lawrence County. Also owned and operated a large farm in Russell.
Erastus was a private in the 106th NY Volunteer Infantry. He served from Aug 13 1862 to Mar 11 1865.
