Bertha Shepard Austin, 86, of Ottawa departed this life on September 5, 2012. She was born December 18, 1925 and was a daughter of the late Berry and Siggie Bertha Shepard.

She was also preceded in death by
her husband, Edward Austin;
her brothers, Murley Jerry Shepard, Omar "Shorty" Shepard;
sister, Nellie Woods;
son-in-law, Charles Baisden;
grandson, Charlie Baisden.

Bertha attended church at Laurel City Freewill Baptist Church in Ottawa and also kept her membership with Bright Star Freewill Baptist Church of Melville, WV. She was well known in the community for her quilting and cooking.

She is survived by
her children, Brenda Baisden of Yuma Circle in Wilkinson, WV, Don (Gaye) Austin of Ottawa, Marcy (Ronnie) Cook of Ottawa;
sisters, Della Pauley of Eleanor and Geneva Spencer and Gladys Elkins both of Hewett;
grandchildren, Kimberly Mendez, Stephanie Davis, Catherine Jenna Ellis, Joseph Austin, Amanda Smith, John Cook and Joshua Cook;
many great-grandchildren, Richard, Kayli, Charlie, Caleb, Amelia, Paris, Lexie Bryson and Zachary.

Service at Laurel City Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Don Austin and Caleb Smith officiating. Burial in Highland Memory Gardens, Godby.
