Helen attended school at Binger, OK and later went to college at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK where she became a teacher of home economics, cooking, canning and dress making. She taught several years in different parts of Oklahoma before moving to Durham where she taught for one year. Helen moved to California where she worked for the Navy and served her country doing electric work until the end of World War II in 1945. She married Howard Metcalfe in November of 1945 in Riverside, CA just 5 days after he returned from 3 years of overseas duty in the United States Air Force.
Helen was a nice person and has many friends wherever she went. She loved the farm, the wildlife and the beauty of the scenery. She played the guitar, organ, accordian and was often heard singing. Helen loved to square and round dance. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Lula Pratt and Ella Mae Scott, one brother Leo Klingman, two half brothers, Irl and Roy Klingman and 2two half sisters Cora Burchett and Jennie Cook.
Services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 1994 at the Crawford Magnolia Baptist Church officiated by A.L. Martin. Interment was in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral service.
Survivors include her husband, Howard, of the home; 1 sister, Maggie Gallage, California; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
