Heart Attack Fatal to Joe Mulkey, 54
Joe Mulkey, 54, for 20 years an employe of the Missouri Pacific freight house, died suddenly at 7:55 o'clock this morning at his home 424 South Seventh street. A heart attack suffered without apparent warning, was the cause of death.
He had worked all day yesterday and had done a few chores around his home preparatory to going to work this morning. He complained of a pain in his heart as he was getting ready to leave the house and died in a few minutes. Mr. Mulkey had previously suffered with high blood pressure but had never been ill.
Joseph Barlow Mulkey was born May 11, 1875, in Tompkinsville, KY. He grew to manhood there and married Amelia Carter. About 1901 he left Kentucky for Western Texas farming there for eight years. he then moved to Atchison with his family entering the employ of the Missouri Pacific. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks in Atchison and of the Baptist Church.
Besides his widow Mr Mulkey is survived by two children; Aubry 'Buster' Mulkey of Denver, Colo and Miss Edna Mulkey of the home, his mother Mrs. Sarah E. Mulkey, Medicine Mound Tex.; two brothers T.C. Mulkey also of Medicine Mound Tex. and John Mulkey of Atchison; two grandchildren Betty Jane and Billy children of Buster Mulkey.
Funeral arrangements are awaiting word from relatives. The body is at the Stanton funeral home.
