Fred later moved to Emporia where he worked, and later married his wife, Wilma nee Dooley, and they later had children. He was a high-spirited person, and always had to be doing something constructive. He worked for 40 years, and after retiring from full-time work, he started working mowing lawns, and similar things. He did that up until he got Cancer at 87-years-old.

Funeral services for Fred R. Hitzeman, 92, Emporia, will be held at the West Side Baptist Church, Emporia, on Monday at 2:00 P.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor Kenneth Armstrong, of the church. Interment will follow at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia
Mr. Hitzeman died Wednesday evening at Newman Regional Health.
Fred R. Hitzeman was born at Olpe, Kansas on May 12, 1920, the son of Emil and Minnie (Foerster) Hitzeman. He married Wilma Dooley November 19, 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives.
Other family members include two sons, Alan and Dennis Hitzeman, a daughter, Audrey Hitzeman, all in Emporia, sisters, Dorothy Lucy, Emporia, Helen Showers and Marcella Corpening, both in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Wilma Simpson.
Mr. Hitzeman was a member of the West Side Baptist Church, Emporia.
For twenty years he worked at Didde Corporation, then for another twenty years at Bluestem Farm and Ranch, both in Emporia. He had been retired five years.
