Mr. Friend was a disabled World War II veteran and had served in the U.S. Navy. He was born and raised in Madison County, moving to Muncie in 1952. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are the wife, Lois; a son, Jerry Allen Friend, Muncie; a daughter, Gloria Lee, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil S. Friend, Alexandria; three brothers, Robert of Pendleton, Jack serving in the U.S. Army, Ft. Benning, Ga., and Thomas, at home; a sister, Mrs. Larry Bassett, Muncie; and the grandmother, Mrs. Laura Friend, Anderson.
Friends may call at Meeks Mortuary from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church with Rev. William Grady officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Anderson.
