Sadly, Rob Verhaaren passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012 in a freak accident while he was participating in the LoToJa Bicycle Classic, a 206-mile, one day race from Logan, Utah to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He first participated in this race in 2008 and was a veteran rider.

He was less than 20 miles from the finish line, just leaving Hoback Junction on Highway 89, when he had swerved to avoid a pothole, losing control and went over a bridge railing, falling 30 to 40 feet, ending up in the shallow Snake River. He was transported to St. John's Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

He leaves behind his wife, Bridget and 3 children, Ansel, Helena and Karl.
