Christian J. Boehlefeld of Davis, Stephenson county, Illinois died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford, Winnebago county, Illinois at age 70. He was born June 20, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Carl F. BOEHLEFELD and Emma Louise MALINOSKY. Christian married Carol Kurtz of Cleveland, Ohio. Later on Dec. 5, 1980, in Rockford he married the former Sharon Polancic who survives. Chris graduated from St. Stephen Grade School & West Technical High School, both in Cleveland. He earned a BS degree from Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio, where he also was an assistant coach for the 1960-'61 basketball team that won the NCAA small school championship. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He later earned a master's degree in education counseling at Northern Illinois University. For most of his life, he was a teacher, first in Ohio and then at Durand Community School in Durand. "Coach Bo" was head boys and girls varsity basketball coach during his career there and helped to coach other sports teams. He advised academic bowl teams, as well as CLOWNS and other peer-help student groups.
He was honored for his participation in the Boone-Winnebago Regional Tech Prep and KIDS Care programs. After he retired from Durand High School in 2001, he remained active as a substitute teacher, primarily at Winnebago High School. Mr. Boehlefeld was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Durand.

CHRISTIAN'S PARENTS: Carl F. Boehlefeld of 1945 W. 52Nd Street, Cleveland, Ohio, died Aug 30, 1961 in Deaconess Hospital, Cleveland at age 54. He was born in 1907 in Cleveland, the son of Charles Boehlefeld and Sarah McGovern. Emma Louise (MALINOSKY) BOEHLEFELD born April 2, 1909 in Cleveland, died March 26, 1993 in a Medina nursing home at age 83. Both were buried in Holy Cross Cemetery. Emma was the daughter Frank MALINOSKY and Minnie J. RAMBERT. They married Nov. 29, 1929 in Cuyahoga county, Ohio

CHRISTIAN'S FUNERAL was Thursday, May 13, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 602 W. Main St., Durand, Illinois, with Monsignor Eric Barr, pastor, officiating. A private burial was held later. Arrangements were handled by McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main St., Durand, Illinois.
