Richard Watts Finley died at his residence six miles west of Fairfield, at 3 o'clock p.m. 1/1/ 1894. Richard Watts Finley, son of James and Margaret Finley, aged 46 years, 10 months and 17 days. Richard was born in Hocking County, Ohio, 2/15/1847. He came to Wayne County, Illinois with his parents in the spring of 1866. Was married to Miss Rebecca C., daughter of D.G Buis 3/27/1873. He leaves a wife and 8 children . . . Richard volunteered in Co. A. 31st Reg. Ohio Infantry on 2/20/1864 and was discharged at Louisville, KY at the close of the rebelion in 1865. He was with General Sherman on his celebrated march from Atlanta to the sea. Remains were deposited in the Bovee Cemetery.
