1922 - 2012
Katherine K. Helppie, passed away peacefully in her home in Hamilton, Montana, on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012. Kay was born on Sept. 15, 1922, in Butte. She grew up in Montana and attended Montana State University.
Kay married Garfield N. Helppie on Dec. 30, 1946, in Reno, Nev. They lived in Los Angeles, Calif., and had a summer home in West Yellowstone. Kay spent many happy summer days riding horses with her son, James K. Helppi. Kay and Gar retired to Hamilton in 1982.
Kay was an active Catholic all of her life. She volunteered in the church, as well as in her community. She spent many years driving cancer patients to Missoula for chemotherapy treatments. Kay will be remembered fondly by all who knew her and will be greatly missed in Hamilton.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Garfield Helppie; her son, James Helppi and her sister, Lillian K. Brown. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (James) Walker of Irvine, Calif., as well numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church on Thursday, Sept. 13. The viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. The committal will follow at the Riverview Cemetery. A reception will be held in the Pastoral Life Center. The Rev. James A. Conner will be presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Ravalli County Council on Aging and Marcus Daly Hospice.
Brothers Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family.
