Philippine Insurrection Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Hixton, Wisconsin, he served as a Private, in Company B, 2nd Oregon Volunteer Infantry, US Army. On May 13, 1899, he was a member of a forward scout party at Luzon, Philippine Islands, when a large group of about 300 of the enemy was discovered. Private Lyon, with 11 other scouts, charged over a distance of about 150 yards and completely took the enemy position without waiting for the supporting battalion to aid them. For extreme gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on January 24, 1906.
